Grid Rivals uses official iRacing Championship Points from each recorded race result, then applies a race time multiplier to balance out races of different lengths.
The race time multiplier exists to balance the value of races regardless of their length. Without it, a driver could run four 15-minute sprint races and earn up to four times the points of a driver who spent the same total time in a single one-hour endurance race — even though both put in the same amount of effort overall.
The multiplier is calculated as:
multiplier = race_time_minutes ÷ base_minutes (capped at 6×)
Using the default base of 30 minutes = 1×:
The base time and cap can be adjusted by the championship admins at any time.
Each team carries a pool of Reserve Drivers alongside its main active roster. Reserves do not earn championship points while they sit on the bench, but they are still tracked for race activity so they're ready to contribute immediately when called up.
At the start of Week 6 of the season, the bottom-ranked drivers from each team swap places with their team's reserve pool:
This gives every team member a reason to race consistently throughout the first half of the season.
No. Drivers can run unlimited official races, and every valid recorded race contributes to their total.
Grid Rivals is intended to encourage more participation in official iRacing races while creating a fun, friendly competition between the Team Demps and Team Malone communities.
Great question! Grid Rivals is officially abbreviated as TITS:
Yes, we're fully aware. And yes, we regret nothing. 🏎️
🎙️ Team Commentary
Team Demps Analysis
As the checkered flag waves on the 20XX racing season, Team Demps finds themselves in an unexpected position - trailing their rivals, Team Malone, by a significant margin of zero points in the championship standings. The season has been a grueling test of speed and strategy for this talented squad, with top performer Al Lotufo leading the charge but failing to secure any points across the board. Zach Blaess, the team's high-octane pitstop specialist, has shown flashes of brilliance that have left fans on the edge of their seats, but consistency has eluded him thus far. Richard Dempsey3, the team captain and veteran racer, has struggled to find his usual form this season, leaving many wondering if his best days are behind him. Despite their disappointing performance, there's still hope for Team Demps. With a roster brimming with young talent like Tony Dibden and Mitch Ashby, the team boasts promising prospects for the future. As they gear up for next season, expectations are high, and fans can't wait to see if these rising stars can steer the team back into championship contention. In a race against time, Team Demps must now analyze their mistakes, regroup, and prepare for a comeback that will leave opponents breathless. With a little luck and a lot of determination, they may just find themselves standing on the podium next season. Until then, it's time to put the pedal to the metal and prove that they are more than just a team without points - they're a team with heart.
Team Malone Analysis
As the checkered flag falls on the season, Team Malone finds themselves trailing in the standings, much like a lone car lost in a dusty desert race. The absence of points is as deafening as an engine missing a spark plug. However, amidst the chaos and sandstorm of zero points, there's a glimmer of hope. Matt Malone, our team captain, showed impressive potential with his 0.0 average points per race - a statistic that, while not exactly setting the world on fire, does at least suggest he knows which way the finish line is. Joining him, the enigmatic Ian Layne has demonstrated an uncanny ability to keep pace, leaving many wondering if this season might just be his breakout moment. If these two can find their rhythm, Team Malone could yet become more than just a caravan of racers lost in the desert. As we look forward to next season, expectations are tempered but not extinguished. With a roster brimming with talent and a burning desire to prove themselves, Team Malone is poised to storm onto the track like a pack of wild mustangs, ready to make up for lost ground and leave the competition in their dust. Here's to hoping they don't get stuck in another sand trap!
